Global user contributions - tool not working
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Hi, the Global user contributions tool seems to be having problems, is not pulling in the basic User contributions correctly.... :-(

Event Timeline

What do you mean by "basic user contributions correctly"?

Hi @BrillLyle, thanks for taking the time to report this!
Unfortunately this report lacks some information. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please add a more complete description to this report. Ideally, exact and clear steps to reproduce should allow any other person to follow these steps (without having to interpret those steps) and see the same results. Problems that others can reliably reproduce can get fixed faster. Thanks!

So if I click on Global user contributions in the footer of a Wikipedia User's User Contributions, the GUC interface is not pulling current information. Like for some new users at the editathon, it is pulling up NULL (i.e., no entries) for users who have English Wikipedia entries listed on their Wikipedia User's User Contributions page. So the GUC is blank but it is clear they have contributions. I am not sure how much more detailed I can be since the tool is providing an absence of information, whereas before it was providing information that matches user contributions on the various projects.

I use this for editathons to track edits across the projects. The information is not displaying now.

If I go to https://tools.wmflabs.org/guc/?user=BrillLyle, after some "|" are displayed, it says: "736 wikis searched. 38085 edits found in 16 projects." and your contributions starting with en.wikisource.org are listed. Does that display no entries for you?

You said that you used this for new users. Are they listed now with contributions? (There is a delay (replication lag) between Wikipedia & Co. and the replicated databases that https://tools.wmflabs.org/guc/ uses. You can check the delay at http://tools.wmflabs.org/replag/.)

I was seeing User Contributions on the User page on English Wikipedia and then seeing none on the GUC. But it seems to be working now thankfully, so I guess this is now resolved.

It must've been some sort of delay. It's just that I do these sweeps for contributions all the time for editathons here in NYC and I'd never seen the information not populate in tandem from the GUC and User Contributions. I didn't imagine it. But am glad it's fine now.

Thanks for your help.
