Here is some feedback on the new Wikistats 2 UI. Page https://stats.wikimedia.org/v2/#/all-projects/reading/total-pageviews:
Let me explain first: when I see a new (stats) page I'm drawn to minor glitches first. That's how I'm wired, can't help it. For example when I'm asked to comment on some prose, I first spot spelling mistakes. Once those are out of my system I can ponder the actual message. Keeping the minutiae for later won't work, I will have forgotten them. So here it goes.
About 456.2: this is too much precision.
- It suggests we have extremely accurate metrics, which usually is not the case.
- It also makes numbers harder to read. Not much of a problem for isolated numbers but slightly annoying when there a many. Every transformation we do in our head (such as rounding) lowers the bandwidth of real information.
Can we have thousands separators on any number larger than 3 digits? Right now it takes multiple seconds (no hyperbole) before I know: is 19269221845 almost two billion, or almost 20 billion. More on this in http://infodisiac.com/blog/2011/11/saving-lifes/
I'm happy to see I can select period '2-Year' now :-)
is this 'zoom-out'? it's not 'full page'. How can I tell? There is no hover hint. Also, I would expect it changes symbol after I clicked it (maybe arrows pointing inwards), but it doesn't.
the lines break at unfortunate places (not dependent on window size), you may choose to insert <br> tags.
make logo link to https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Home ? (NOTE: we talked about this and feel it would be too confusing for users, but we are thinking of an About page where we can add links like this, and more context.)
On mouseover at the line chart the circles are sticky, jump from one month to the next, the vertical line isn't. (This is how we intended it to work, to give people a sense of both where they're hovering and where the data is coming from. Let's see what people say about the alpha, if others agree we can easily change it).
That's all for now. Feel free to call me a nitpicker, as I am just that.
