Batch Upload for The Atlantic Monthly
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Here is the file to batch upload the remaining volumes of The Atlantic Monthly. Since it's an American periodical, I did not set the option to localize the scans on enWS.

@Languageseeker thank you! I will probably process these when/if the large-file upload bug (T278104) is resolved, as it's just too painful to do it when 80-90% of the uploads fail.

@Inductiveload I completely understand. That bug essentially breaks batch uploading. I've encountered it many a times and it's extremely painful. For all intents and purposes, uploading is broken. I think it might be worth leaving a note on your batch upload page so that other users will understand the situation.

@Languageseeker good idea. It wouldn't be so bad, except that you also have to make a choice between making File: and Index: pages for the files that fail and having them loiter with errors all over them until the Server Side Upload happens, or skip them entirely but then create them down the line later, which keeps the mental task "context" open for ages, which is also extremely annoying.

By the way, if you are bored (ha! as if any of us have time to be bored), you can still create pagelists for any of the Strands that do have Index pages, but you'll have to work from the IA DjVus linked at T290900. For periodicals, it's usually much faster to work from a local copy anyway, as waiting for thumbnails is also excruciating.

@Inductiveload I would leave the failed pages until the server side upload can be done. My experience is that users are more likely to proofread when the scans are already in place. Periodicals are particularly challenging to process so I don’t mind waiting a little bit for a server side upload.

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of creating pagelists. I mostly plan on running a few of the stories from each issue through the MC to begin to nibble away at them.

@Languageseeker I was about to start this in earnest, but then I noticed that the publishers are wrong at least for 42, 43 and the index. If you could you update the remainder, I can get this underway. Note that is good to got right now, because "one day" (TM) the index or file pages may well be the initial source for the Wikidata items which will be the "ground truth" for the volumes. And it's always easier to adjust before the upload than afterwards.

Thank you! Sorry about that. It looks as if the company changed it's name a few time. New file uploaded.

I think this is all done. Please check and resolve.

Thank you. It's perfect.
