Impossible to reach footer in Special:MediaSearch
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

List of steps to reproduce (step by step, including full links if applicable):

  • In the mobile view search for something with a huge amount of hits, like Commons:Versions
  • When results are showing, try to scroll to the footer (for example to switch to desktop view)

What happens?:
When you scroll down, you see the link for a brief moment but it is quickly pushed down by auto loading new results, making it impossible to be able to click the button.

What should have happened instead?:
Many options are possible, but a similar behavior to Desktop might be easiest, where there is a fixed number of results and a "Load more" button.

Software version (if not a Wikimedia wiki), browser information, screenshots, other information, etc.:

Google image search allows you to scroll 4 times (3 additional loads) and then presents you with a 'load more images' button.

Feels like a decentish balance.

I think this is a regression - T258516 describes the intended behavior, which looks like it previously worked on mobile:

After loading two additional batches of images we could stop infinite scroll with a "Load more" button in order to allow users to access the footer. After pressing on "Load more", infinite scroll would continue indefinitely without the load more button.

I was trying again, and it seems to actually only load twice. But on the other hand, there is a lot of scrolling to even get it to load the first reload, so it seemed infinite. In fact, my screenshot app reached maximum image limit before even hitting the first reload (screenshot attached). I suggest that to change the behavior to reload automatically.
