On the English Wikipedia call the function {{PAGESINCAT:Candidates for speedy deletion as spam}}
Purge the category as described in T85696
Wait a while
Purge the page that has the PAGESINCAT call

What happens?:

It produces an inaccurate page count for that category: (Currently: 12)

What should have happened instead?:

It should produce the current page count for that category: (Currently: 3)

I note that {{PAGESINCAT:Candidates for speedy deletion as spam}} currently shows 9 even though the category is empty — I have run https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=purge&format=json&servedby=1&curtimestamp=1&errorsuselocal=1&forcelinkupdate=1&forcerecursivelinkupdate=1&titles=Category%3ACandidates%20for%20speedy%20deletion%20as%20spam (API sandbox), ensuring forcelinkupdate is set, even though T85696 should cover this and it remains at 9
