Problem
Categories are outdated. I think that no one will argue that the current implementation of categories is inconvenient for the user: they are difficult to remove from all pages, they are difficult to rename on all pages, and they are difficult to add. The first two difficulties are solved with the help of bots, the last with the help of the hotcat gadget.
Currently, they are not intuitive for new users, and there are no tips on how to add them. This is especially true if the user uses a wikieditor rather than a visual one.
It seems to me that it is necessary to treat the categories as interwikis and move them into a separate work area that will not be related to the content.
What I want?
- As a user, I want to be able to easily remove and add a category to a page without editing it.
- As a user, I want to be able to intuitively add a sort key.
- As a user, I want to create wikilinks to a category without specifying a : in front of it, since I often forget this.
- As an administrator, I want that by renaming a category, it will be renamed on all pages.
- As an administrator, I want to be able to delete a category on all pages at once.
Questions
- Many templates add categories using wikitext, perhaps there is another solution.
- Categories are often enclosed within tags <includeonly> etc
