I'm looking at Live Update on beta (see screenshot below). The 'Previously viewed changes' marker is very useful, but there are a couple of things about the functionality for hiding it that I think we could improve:
- **Problem 1:** Right now, the marker is shown as a link, in blue. As a user, if I saw a link called "Previously viewed changes," I'd assume clicking on it would take me to a list of previously viewed changes (which would be confusing--what is that list?). But that is not what this does. Instead, it hides the marker.
- **Proposed solution: **If we think that hiding the marker is a thing users will want to do—and they may well—I'd recommend just making that explicit. E.g., make the marker not a link, but add a link right after it, along these lines: **Previously viewed changes [__hide this__]**
- **Problem 2:** Currently, when the user hides the marker, it doesn't stay hidden. As soon as a another result comes in, the marker comes back. So I don't think that satisfies the use case of a reviewer who finds the marker distracting.
- **Proposed solution: ** ~~the setting persist until the user turns off Live Update. When the user turns Live Update back on, the marker will return.~~ !!I just realized this works for LU but makes no sense for View Newest. See my comments below. JM!!
Alternatively, we could simply not include the ability to hide the marker, and then wait to see if users ask for it. @Pginer-WMF, what do you think?
- **Small display issue:** Also, now that I look at this screenshot closely, I see that the marker is touching the List of Abbreviations box. We should probably adjust that, though it's not critical.
