Search suggestions drop down ignores search for whatever appears under your mouse
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Place your mouse cursor where the search suggestion drop-down box will appear.
  • Enter something for some arbitrary search.
  • Push enter.

What happens?:

Your search query is ignored in favour of whatever suggested search happened to appear under your mouse cursor.

What should have happened instead?:

When the enter key is pressed, your typed search query should be processed as a search and whatever search suggestion your mouse cursor is hovering over should be ignored.

If a search suggestion is clicked on with the mouse, it should be processed instead of whatever query was entered.

If the directional buttons are used to select down from the entered query to the suggested searches and enter is pressed, the selected suggestion should be searched instead of the entered query.

The fact that my cursor just happened to be there should not matter, even more so when I did not move my cursor to select a suggestion and the selected option just happened to appear on the drop down under it. Using the mouse to select a search and then enter to process it instead of LBM is very unusual.
