[Migrated] Process protected pages
Open, Needs TriagePublic

I would like the ability to process protected pages. Currently, when AWB comes across a protected page, it's automatically skipped. I would like AWB to indicate that it's protected, but go ahead and show what changes ''should'' be made; then the user can submit an {{Edit protected}} request or ask a friendly admin to take care of it. There's no reason that typos and other issues should go unfixed when a tool as useful as AWB can help to find them. @Mandarax 02:29, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Reguyla updated the task description. (Show Details)
Reguyla raised the priority of this task from to Needs Triage.
Reguyla added a project: AutoWikiBrowser.
Reguyla moved this task to Feature request (unsorted) on the AutoWikiBrowser board.
Reguyla added subscribers: Reguyla, Aklapper.

I support this request but would go a little further to say that it should open a browser tab to a new section of the talk page of the protected page and prefill in an edit request (it should be able to give a detailed description of changes to be made) so that the AWB user only needs to review the edit request and submit it. AWB should once opening this tab, continue on its task to complete (which would leave the tab in the browser unaffected). As I think about implementation for this, I'm thinking it might be best served as an add-on module. :)

@Mandarax @Technical13 You can copy the content of a protected page in a Sanbox and then try general fixes there.

AWB behaves in /Sandbox and /sandbox same as in mainspace.

This happened to me today (never seen it skip for that reason, maybe it was coincidence), or fate ;) I support a feature to Allow AWB to display suggestions to be made to a page and post a request on the talk page somehow, using a "diff-template" which has a prefill option for the "reviewing user with the rights to edit the page or something like that. Would be a good addition!
