Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=extracts&explaintext&exsentences=10&redirects&format=xml&titles=Litfiba returns only 1 sentence while the lede has 3 sentences, each in its own paragraph. Which is a really crappy formatting but still should be supported.

Confirmed fixed: result contains section markers and many sentences.

Thanks @Arthur2e5 for confirming, I should not the new format may not be ideal however as it includes those section headings and I'm not sure how useful that is/expected by the client. A client can easily strip any content after the first == if necessary!
