extraneous garbled link text on top of Wikipedia Android app's Share as image.
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

  1. Open WIkipedia Beta Android app.
  2. visit Vincent van Gogh article
  3. choose menu > Share > Share as image
  4. Gmail the image

Result:

Vincent van Gogh.jpg (360×640 px, 66 KB)

Unlike (I think) "Share" in the Wikipedia iOS app, this includes all the text of the opening sentence, including some useless links:

  • the ([OBJ] listen) link, where the [OBJ] box is where the speaker icon displays on desktop
  • a citation link.

Also the text overlays the top of the image and the bottom is cropped, which doesn't match the lead image display in the article nor the link preview display in other articles.

Expected result:
Show the lead image the way it looks in the article; don't include links and consider using the same simple text snippet of Link preview; maybe put the text snippet underneath in a white bottom border of the image, like Hovercards display.

  1. choose menu > Share > Share as image

This seems gone from recent Wikipedia and Wikipedia Beta app, there's just menu > Share link which shares the URL and the ability to tap then share the lead image (see T107314: Sharing images should have better citations like Share-A-Fact). So I'm marking invalid.
