Search bar 'go' button capitalization issue for uncreated pages
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: zakarash2001

Description:
If there are two users, let's say User:ABC and User:abc in a Wiki, but User:ABC
has a userpage but User:abc does not, if you type user:abc into the search bar
and hit go, you always end up at user:ABC's page. The only way to access
user:abc's page would be to manually click on a link to it from inside the wiki
or in the preview window of the edit bar, for example clicking on a link
[[user:abc]].

Usernames cannot start with a lowercase character, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Try ABC and Abc. This _should_ hit 'Abc' before 'ABC' if you type 'abc'. Can
confirm or no?

I just tried it, and it searching User:ABC/Abc both show up at User:ABC. The "Go" button was case-sensitive as far as I know. However, I'd think this is a good thing as it would be more likely to get you to the page you want, and aren't thrown because of capitalization issues. Recommend WONTFIX.

Note that no new user registrations can occur with such similar names if you're using AntiSpoof. Also, such similar usernames (differing only in case) must be prohibited in the core software if bug 453 is to be fixed. So this issue is ultimately going to fix itself at some point anyway. Not sure there's any reason to bother making a special exemption for user pages here (or category pages, which share the same problem).

Based on above notes, WONTFIXing this for now.
