Usernames that are meant for LTR display render strangely in RTL
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

If I visit a user page such as https://he.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D7%9E%D7%A9%D7%AA%D7%9E%D7%A9:Melamrawy_(WMF)
the bracket appears at the beginning of the title. Expected: It should be treated as LTR text.

I agree this is ugly, but in the meanwhile let's give a look at documentation: this is the reasony why some WMF users are allowed to have a "-WMF" suffix in username instead of " (WMF)", but perhaps should be documented somewhere public in the meanwhile. Where is the username guideline for WMF?

I'm not sure where's the guideline; I do think that there is one, and @Jalexander is indeed the right person to ask (also tagging @Mdennis-WMF and @Elitre, who might know).

For this reason I'd strongly suggest removing the parentheses from all WMF usernames, as well as WMDE, etc., and renaming them to the -WMF form, which is a perfectly reasonable workaround.

Sorry, this is probably the biggest bug in the Unicode bidi algorithm, and there's no way to truly resolve it.
