MediaWiki flakiness (?) caused (? causes ?) auto-cite tool to become unavailable somehow
Closed, DuplicatePublic8 Estimated Story Points

Description

I'm trying to add a citation on enwiki, and citoid appears to be missing from the UI (?!). Firefox latest on Mac, but subbu confirms on IRC that it is missing for them too.

Checked everything obvious, (no recent changes to the message it relies on), citoid still showing up on Special:Version, seems to be working on other wikis I tried (pl, fr).

I have no idea.

Well it's definitely that the message isn't coming through;

JSON.parse( mw.message( 'citoid-template-type-map.json' ).plain() ) with VE
open in en wiki gives

<citoid-template-type-map.json>

Whereas on fr wiki the message is actually loaded.

Possibly T93800? :/

Working in master on beta labs, so probably a configuration issue

I did an ?action=purge on the message page and it appears to be coming through now.

Appears to be back for me now, but it's disturbing that *I* had to be the one to notice/flag it. How is this normally tested after deploy?

This appears to be a cache pollution issue, so may not be tied to the deployment, and wasn't visible in staging where most testing happens.

I don't think this is deploy related; deploys happen on Thursdays, as far
as I can tell this issue doesn't pre-date your report of it substantially.
And everything was working on beta as well as every other language wiki, so
even if it were deploy related, it wouldn't have been caught since beta is
how we test things before they go live to other wikis. (To answer your
question, I believe @Elitre and maybe others do testing on the beta site
following the cut on Tuesdays.)
Apparently this is not the case, I don't actually know.

But I do agree the issue is generally disturbing; the issue was likely a
bad cache of the page; it is a little disturbing that the cache wasn't
refreshed until Ed purged the page's cache. Nor do I have any idea why the
cache would be bad to begin with; the page itself hasn't been modified
since it was created.

Broken again this morning as of 5:12AM Pacific.

Did you try purging again? Checked now and working.

Mvolz added a comment.Jul 8 2015, 12:53 PM

(Also, thanks for letting me know)

Working again now, without any change/action on my part other than some
edits/saves.

I purged, but it seemed like hitting debug mode fixed it. Will bring it up when SF office wakes up.
