Following the research in T105475, rendering a single reference thumbnail of 2880 seems like a safe thing to do that should bring down the average thumbnail generation time. Having a single reference thumbnail in the chain instead of several should avoid the sharpening issue that previously prevented chaining from staying deployed, because of the visual quality issues it introduced.
