We should consider collapsing the search bar in responsive Vector. Collapsing the text box input into the magnifying glass icon when not in use is fairly common.

Sounds good. Brickimedia's Refreshed skin, which is fully responsive, implements the search box this way for mobile. Same can be said about WPtouch, a mobile-only skin.
