Adjustable image spacing in packed gallery mode
Open, LowestPublic

Description

Considerable discussions at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Paul_Signac supports the packed gallery mode over the older standard mode concerning articles on art.
The major argument that still remains for the old format is that the images are too close together in packed mode. If adjustable spacing could be introduced this could be rolled out to a few thousand articles immediately.
Example:

I think adding this kind of customisation, though superficially attractive, makes things more of a mess, not less.

More practically, I think the only real issue is with very tall, but narrow images that have captions. Could a minimum width/height be instituted, so that the space occupied can't get too narrow leading to

underneath the image? It's a small number of images, but it's the only real issue.

Where can I find the file to edit in media wiki?
