A link to Developer App Guidelines on API page
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

If possible, could we add a link to the app guidelines to the API page (as it was to the dumps page). It would be great if a header called "Legal" could be added on the very bottom (below "useful links") - and the sentence says: App Guidelines: a guide for developers on how to properly reuse Wikimedia data, API, trademarks, and other content.

Link to API page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Main_page

Link to apps guide: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Developer_app_guidelines

Thanks,
Vickie

This is a page for the generic MediaWiki API. It is not specific to Wikimedia sites, and is used to connect to and get data from many other non-Wikimedia sites.

I don't see how SRE is relevant here either.

My misunderstanding - operations should not have been tagged.

Aklapper edited projects, added MediaWiki-Action-API, Documentation; removed acl*sre-team.
Aklapper set Security to None.
Aklapper added a subscriber: Spage.

That being said, one place that may be appropriate for these links is the /api/ of each Wikimedia wiki - for example https://meta.wikimedia.org/api/
That content is controlled at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/API_listing_template - proper place to suggest changes is https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/API_listing_template/temp

Thanks, great suggestion. Is it best to just make a note on the discussion page or directly on the page you link to?

The way that system is supposed to work is you edit the content of the /temp page, and then an admin will synchronise it to the main one (which is protected). If you're not comfortable with editing the /temp HTML directly, you can try posting on the talk page asking for someone to do it for you.

Many thanks! I'll try it right now.
