Curiously, the -{ }- markup, which definitely belongs to the language converter, doesn't appear directly in the wiki syntax of the source article, but it probably pops up at some point in the Parsoid handling.
Checked in cx2-testing (with CX2 version) the same article translation zh: 张纪南 -> en:Zhang Jinan.
The phab task was filed to complain that -{zh;zh-hans;zh-hant| was added after the reference was processed by ContentTranslation:
