Build Community Wishlist infographic and make it easily translatable
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The basic graphic is mostly done: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Community_Wishlist_Survey.svg

It needs to have the text converted to actual text rather than outlines. Also the step labels should probably be bigger so that they are readable at thumbnail size.

Quick feedback on the graphic:

  • That "Infographic explains the process for the Community Wishlist Survey" and lists several steps. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Community_Tech_team/Community_Wishlist_Survey lists less steps ("Phase 1: Submitting proposals", "Phase 2: Voting", "Analysis and prioritization" and "Development"). I'd expect process steps to be the same number and same names.
  • Step ownership: Some steps seem to not explain who is supposed to perform these actions while others do - e.g. who is supposed to translate "the proposal" (I thought there will be several proposals?)?
  • Direction: I appreciate arrows when processes are supposed to be one-way. The way is interrupted by a big "Community Tech team" circle and the way does not seem to continue towards the item "Completed wishes" at the bottom which I think is the actual goal in the end?
  • Curves: What is the design intention behind the curves? Imply "this is going to be a long way"?

FYI, quick'n'dirty version that works better for my brain (which is not a neurotypical brain):

It could happen that WMDE's TCB team is working on a request from the international wishlist, shouldn't it be mentioned on the infographic alike with other WMF Dev teams then? Similar to the prototype infographic we made to illustrate the technical wishes process some time ago - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WMDE_Technical_Wishes_-_Collaboration_and_Communication.svg. What do you think, @kaldari, @DannyH? Cheers, B.

@Bmueller: Since I'm not really sure how to re-arrange the graphic to accommodate that, what do think about just changing "Other WMF developer teams" to "Other developer teams"?

@Aklapper: Good point about the labels. I've revised them to be more consistent with the existing process documentation.

kaldari moved this task from In Development to Q1 2018-19 on the Community-Tech-Sprint board.

@Aklapper: Good point about the labels.

@kaldari: Thanks. What about all my other points?

@Aklapper:

Text updated to reflect who performs each action.

Personally, I don't find this confusing, so I think we'll stick with the design proposed by the designer rather than bikeshedding on it.

Curves: What is the design intention behind the curves? Imply "this is going to be a long way"?

Aesthetic I imagine. Same with the colors.
