Prepare MediaWiki Stakeholders' Presentation for January Developer Summit
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

For the WMF Developer Summit in January we want to present the following

  • A formal report from our MediaWiki Users Survey including quantitative and qualitative summaries
  • A desired roadmap for MedaiWiki - particularly focusing on a third-party 'wishlist' we've collected and prioritized
  • A desired roadmap for the MedaiWiki Stakeholders' Group - what do we as an organization want to accomplish around the technology - events, funding, outreach, etc.
  • A conversation with the WMF and WM movement about the future of MediaWiki and how we can, together, improve that future.

Adding Quim to see if we can get this put on the schedule.

I believe the deadline for submitting talk proposals was October 2 (a month ago). See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Developer_Summit_2016#Call_for_participation.

Well, yes, the deadline for new proposals is well behind us now. Also note that presentations and tutorials are explicitly discouraged during the Summit.

What about this plan B:

  • You join and support the ongoing proposals relevant to the MediaWiki Stakeholders Group i.e. T89907: Discuss and approve a MediaWiki developer community governance model.
  • We all discuss a potential quarterly goal for Developer-Advocacy about the strategy for MediaWiki third party users and developers. Just create a task with your questions or proposals.
  • We arrange a meeting between the MediaWiki Stakeholders Group and whoever needs to be involved at the Wikimedia Foundation, on Wednesday, January 6.

Beyond the important detail of the passed deadline, I think it is also time to move from general sessions where we all end up saying "yes, this needs to be clarified; we have to do something" to focused discussions and actions assigned.

Totally agreed. Thanks for your comments.

MediaWiki-Stakeholders-Group will be meeting to figure out the next steps. Thanks for the direction, @Qgil.

I'm declining this task as a Summit session proposal, for the reasons explained above.

  • We arrange a meeting between the MediaWiki Stakeholders Group and whoever needs to be involved at the Wikimedia Foundation, on Wednesday, January 6.

@Qgil, @cicalese and I will be there. Can we get a meeting with community and arch leads like @RobLa-WMF, etc? We plan to flush out what we'd like to discuss over the next month or so.

@MarkAHershberger please create a task for this meeting and CC @Rfarrand and me. We will help organizing this meeting.
