Unrecognized language link
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

VE is setting the language in {{cite}} templates. It's setting it to en-US, en-GB and other flavours which are not recognized by {{cite}}. Also, these shouldn't be set if the language and wiki are the same languages. On enwiki, these errors end up in [[Category:CS1 maint: Unrecognized language]]

Have you actually reproduced this issue yourself, or have you just observed other people adding these and assumed it must be VE doing it for them?

matmarex subscribed.

Well, it's trivial to reproduce. Take, say, the link from the second diff (http://montrealgazette.com/life/urban-expressions/pop-preview), paste into automatic citation inspector and you get a ref with "en-US" as language.

Why was VE tag removed? Is this not a VE related issue?

Because it sounds like a Citoid issue instead?
