Enable VisualEditor for some user groups at the Spanish Wikipedia
Closed, ResolvedPublic8 Estimated Story Points

Description

Please enable VE at es. wiki for existing registered users and new registered users, per the outcome of their poll at this page .
For new editors, let's go with a gradual rollout, mainly to make the life of patrollers, newbies' helpers etc. a bit easier.
(IP editors are not to be included for the moment.)

  • November 3rd: 10% of newly registered users get the VE tab.
  • Nov 10th: raise the threshold to 25%
  • Nov 17th: 50%
  • Nov 24th: 100%
  • Dec 1st: all the logged-in editors get the VE tab.

Current plan is starting the rollout progressively for newly registered editors,
then extending VE to all logged-in editors after that:

November 3rd: 10% of newly registered users get the VE tab.
Nov 10th: raise the threshold to 25%
Nov 17th: 50%
Nov 24th: 100%
Dec 1st: all the logged-in editors get the VE tab.

From my conversation with James on IRC today:
16:38 <•James_F> Elitre: How do you want to go with eswiki? Do existing users first, then start with new users?
16:38 <•James_F> (That's hard, but if you insist.)
16:38 <Elitre> James_F: how about the other way around? :p
16:38 <•James_F> That's easier. :-)
16:39 <•James_F> When do you want us to start? I could schedule it for 20 minutes' time…
16:40 <Elitre> I don't have preferences about that, but if you're going to only deploy for, say, 25% of newly registered users, then maybe that should be ok. Should we do 50% next Monday?
16:41 <•James_F> I was going to start at 10%.
16:41 <•James_F> But 25% works too.
16:41 <•James_F> How quickly do you want to go?
16:42 <Elitre> 25-50-75-100, then after a week all registered editors?
16:42 <Elitre> and if this doesn't work for them, hopefully they'll shout.
16:44 <Elitre> I'm going to write about this in Phab.
16:45 <•James_F> OK.
16:45 <•James_F> Maybe start tomorrow not today, given the short notice?
16:47 <Elitre> yeah, sure, I won't be around then, but luckily you don't need me for that.

Per a recent update I gave at es.wiki, it's probably a good idea to remind the community when the new users rollout is complete and that the one to other registered users is coming, so I'm going to put that on my calendar for the 24th.
