Add tickbox to return only high quality media in search in Commons
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

It would be very helpful for people wanting to reuse content from Commons on other Wikimedia projects and elsewhere if it a tickbox was available to only return media files that had been assessed as featured pictures, quality images etc. This function is available by adding the following phrase after the search term so perhaps the button can simply add this (and appropriate additional terms) to the end of the search phrase?

incategory:Featured_pictures_on_Wikimedia_Commons|Quality_images

There is a tradeoff in any addition of new items to a user interface - do we know how common it is to search for this?

@Aklapper Is it possible to find out what people searched for?

Yes it is a trade off but people don't have to use it and it would be very useful to reduce time looking for good images on a large subject and for new users not familiar with the category structure e.g teachers looking for resources. The addition of the feature may encourage more images to be assessed as the assessment would have more utility.

Search on Commons is very low priority for us at the minute.

People can use incategory: if they want to search in category. There's also AdvancedSearch nowadays.
