Move research and experimental code from Math to MathSearch extension
Open, MediumPublic

Description

There is quite a lot of code in the Math extension that is used by few people with custom setups only.
For example the NIST DRMF project has special needs.
Therefore I suggest to move all this experimental code from the Math to the MathSearch extension.
For the enduser it does not really matter in which repo the code is, but for me and for WMF staff it would simplifiy things.
I'm planning to move the following features:

  • LaTeXML support.
  • Support for other (non LaTeX) input

What do you think ?

Physikerwelt added projects: Math, MathSearch.

Hm, I'm rather hesitant here. What's the long-term plan regarding these experimental features? Will they ever enter a stable state?

Conceptually, I wouldn't say this is a good idea, since the two extensions perform different tasks. If it really creates problems, we could move this experimental code into a new extension, say MathExperimental perhaps?

I think it fits well to the MathSearch extension because LaTeXML generates content MathML which is required for the search index.

Ok, let's do it. Worst-case scenario: we move it back or somewhere else once these stabilise.
