I was just passing by (noticed this task on Phabricator's main page). Could someone provide a link to the cross-wiki upload tool mentioned, please. Do not think I have heard of it before and it sounds curious. Thanks.

@Base: It's a new built-in feature of VisualEditor that allows an image to be uploaded immediately while editing a page without leaving VisualEditor.

And the wikitext editor. Released in September.

OMG. I have heard about it for VE but didn't about wikitext one. Thank you for the information. Gods. Where is it documented?

Change 259273 had a related patch set uploaded (by Bartosz Dziewoński):
mw.ForeignStructuredUpload: Add '{{Uncategorized}}' template if no categories given

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/259273

The bug has been fixed now, and the fix will be deployed to Wikimedia wikis this week with MediaWiki 1.27.0-wmf.9, per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.27/Roadmap.

It really wasn't (it's the same tool though). I have now documented it at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Cross-wiki_upload. Let me know if anything you'd want to read is missing :) (preferably on the talk page there).
