The status of the Apertium services for ContentTranslation must be monitored proactively. Currently we have no way of knowing that a service is down unless somebody happens to report it, and this causes people to translate less or not to translate at all.

It's a question for Kartik, I guess. If a service doesn't work for any reason and a user doesn't report, will somebody be notified? Is there at least a regular manual procedure for checking that it works in the logs?

Apertium, along with other services from the LPL team, is now being monitored using Logstash and Grafana dashboards. Downtime is usually reported to the team by SREs.
