Vertical lines produced by templates Clade and Phylogeny do not appear on smartphone in the Mobile FrontEnd
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

While reading Basal (phylogenetics) on my smartphone¹, I noticed that the vertical lines in the diagram in § Examples, a horizontal cladogram with root at the left, were missing, which made the chart hard to read. Some exploration showed that

  • the diagram was generated with Template:Clade and Template:Phylogeny
  • on the smartphone, the vertical lines were missing in the mobile view of the page, but appeared properly in the desktop view
  • on my laptop² the vertical lines appear correctly in both views
  • in Template:Clade/doc, in the fifth example (demonstrating the use of the thickness parameter), the vertical lines show up on my smartphone in the mobile view as well as in the desktop view, but without the extra thickness
  • zooming in makes no difference

Are those the desktop view (top) and the mobile view (bottom)?

@Thnidu indeed. I have now fixed this problem

This (attached) is what I see there now.

My current phone info:

Samsung S-6 Verizon SM-G920V
Android version 7.0, Nougat
Baseband v. G920VVRS4DQE1
kernel version 3.10.61

It doesn't look fixed to me.

@Thnidu is that with the samsung browser, or the Chrome browser ?

Firefox 54.0.1 with 2.3 GB of memory. I don't have the others on my phone.
But only in the mobile view. Here's the desktop view on my phone.

I forgot the attachment. Desktop view on my phone, in Firefox.

Thx, i'll take a look again tonight.

I've installed Firefox on Bluestacks (MacOS Android simulator) and I could not reproduce.

There is a documented 10 year old issue in Firefox however about missing vertical lines, at various zoom levels. It might be that this is what the mobile browser is hitting, If zooming the view in and out can influence the effect for you, than that would be a confirmation of this browser problem I think, (but not having it, would not proof it is NOT that problem)

P.S. If people are wondering why the graphs look different on my desktop screenshots vs. other screenshots (top align of the horizontal part vs. middle align of the horizontal part). This is a known issue with some browsers (Safari, IE), where remaining cell height is not equally distributed.

Safari desktop:
