Retrospective on WikiDev '16
Closed, DuplicatePublic

WikiDev '16: What went well? What should we look into? This task is to make sure we learn what we need to learn from this, and we do whatever wrapup tasks we need to do.

  • Widely gather thoughts about what we should learn from this event?
  • Should we plan to have WikiDev '17?
  • If we do want to have a similar event next year, how can we improve on this year?
    • What should we try to replicate?
    • What should we look into changing?
  • If we don't want to plan a similar event next year, what (if anything) should we do instead?

I'd like to use our RFC office hour time (E134) to talk about the Dev Summit tomorrow. This isn't a substitute for T123405: Schedule WikiDev '16 retrospective meeting for the week starting 2016-01-25, but it'll be an opportunity to follow up on any of the discussions from the summit while they're still fresh.

@Qgil: I've done everything I plan to do on this one. Feel free to resolve, unassign, or do whatever you think is appropriate.

@Qgil, @Rfarrand: do you believe it makes sense to post something to about this? I had put this in the queue of stuff to talk about there, but I think the presentation Quim and I made at the January metrics meeting might be sufficient for this. This might help with T124504: Transition WikiDev '16 working areas into working groups, but the level of enthusiasm I'm seeing so far doesn't give me much faith that we collectively think the groups defined there are a good idea.

A blog post in combination with T124259: Publish Lessons Learned from Wikimedia Developer Summit 2016 is a good idea. I think we can merge the idea of retrospective and lessons learned, so I will merge this task.

The future of the Wikimedia Developer Summit should be discussed in the context of T124021: Define the Technical Collaboration team strategy and T124420: Technical Collaboration narratives and budget for strategic work. We are getting there...
