Organize a tech talk for the "Q&A system for Wikimedia (Support desk, community questions, ...)" topic

Description

The T31923: Install Q&A system at ask.wikimedia.org is a bit stalled, and some questions are open. A tech talk could help to answer these questions. The overall topic is: Do we need a Q&A system fpr Wikimedia topics?

The goal should be to clarify:

  • The scope of such a Q&A system (what communities (Wikipedias, third party MediaWiki administrators only, all Wikimedia communities?), what topics (only tech related, community related, anything else?))
  • What software would fit our needs out of the box? What software do other projects use? (You can find some minimum requirements in the blocked task)

(Personal comment: I never ever organized a tech talk, so maybe someone can help me :])

Rachel, I proposed this Tech Talk at T31923 as a panel of people presenting different options and then discussing. Let's not rush organizing this session, it is better to prepare well with the panel members and making good promotion, because it might be a hot topic, and therefore a popular session.

Sorry for the dance of workboards. It looks like the Q&A topic is again kind of dormant, and it is not a priority for DevRel either.

I was wondering whether @Florian and/or others interested in this topic would be at the Wikimania-Hackathon-2016. We could have a casual meeting there.

Sorry, I'm not at the Wikimania (or the hackathon before) this year :( I unfortunately also missed this topic at this years Wikimedia Hackathon, so probably we can schedule a session at the Hackathon next year or maybe at the Developer Summit if there's one next year? It's a long time until both, though :(

Maybe I was over-enthusiastic when I proposed this tech talk. Sorry for the hassle. I think it is better to decline this task. If the topic of T31923: Install Q&A system at ask.wikimedia.org is reactivated, we can always reopen it and go for it.
