Special:Log autocompletion should be based on log title index, not current page index
Open, LowestPublic

Description

"WP:" is a namespace alias for the Wikipedia namespace on the English Wikipedia. Back in 2007, before this was the case, a redirect was deleted at the title "WP:IARDEE IAR IAR", as shown by this log entry:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&offset=20071107015056&limit=1&user=WJBscribe&page=&tagfilter=&hide_thanks_log=1&hide_patrol_log=1&hide_tag_log=1&hide_review_log=1&type=

However, typing "WP:IARDEE IAR IAR" into the log search box causes Wikipedia to search for "Wikipedia:IARDEE IAR IAR", which returns no results:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=&user=&page=WP%3AIARDEE+IAR+IAR&year=&month=-1&tagfilter=&hide_thanks_log=1&hide_patrol_log=1&hide_tag_log=1&hide_review_log=1

However, searching for "File:Hello.jpg" returns several results from long before the time when the file namespace was renamed from its former title of "Image:" in 2009:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=&user=&page=File%3AHello.jpg&year=&month=-1&tagfilter=&hide_thanks_log=1&hide_patrol_log=1&hide_tag_log=1&hide_review_log=1

Do you think those WP: entries (select count(*) from logging where log_title like 'WP:%'; returns 2022 on the labs replicas) should be edited to point to the Wikipedia namespace?

That'd probably be a good idea.

The other problem is accessing the deleted edits themselves (that's impossible using the first link in my description). But maybe that's another bug.

MediaWiki does not have a high-performance index for deleted page titles, and I'm not sure one would likely be introduced just for this.

However, the logging system itself does have an index for the title part of its rows. It seems feasible to expose that through an API for auto-completion. Right now it uses the main search backend for its autocompletion, which means among other things that deleted pages are not suggested, either.
