Add rollback confirmation to mediawiki software
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

IMHO it is better, to confirm the click onto the link "rollback" of page revisions in wikipedias of any language, to prevent a rollback onto the link as mistake. Rollbacks by mistake are very awful and I suppose this can be prevented simply.

Click onto the link "rollback" and then it should pop up a window to confirm the rollback (yes/no) before the revision will be rollbacked.

Thank you, ...

There are users, who use a script for that. The problem of making a confirmation for every rollback: If you want to rollback a lot of edits, a confirmation is very unuseful.

Rollback a lot of edits is not very usual. But you can confirm a bulk of rollbacks. I suppose this is a very useful mediawiki software feature.

@Luke081515: Hmm, do you know why this is MediaWiki-extensions-General ? Isn't Rollback a core function?

Sorry, I wanted to use MediaWiki-General, but I clicked the wrong project at dropdown.

I strongly second this proposal. Way too prone to breakage by mistake.

Confirmations should be opt-out if one wants so (via preference setting, user script, whatever), not the contrary. Also note undo links aren't "one click".

Yes, but undo links are not for mass actions. Rollback is just a function to mass revert trolls, vandals or malfunctioning bots. So oress confirmation every time would be very anoonying, if you doing such actions. If you say, you want rollback with confirmation, why you don't use a script? For example there is this one, which works for vector and monobook at least, and adds a confirmation dialog, if you click rollback (actualy it has german text, so it maybe needs a localisation).

Indeed, there are a handful of scripts for altering this behaviour. See for instance:

Why, do you think?

As I said, confirmation still could be opt-out if one wants so.

This might be a duplicate of T49782.

There is an old patch for this at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/90729/, which could probably be revived with minimal effort. The interface it implements is identical to the "thanks" links inline confirmation.

No please, adding extra steps to rollback will be very annoying. Fine for having an OPTION to "require confirmation for rollback (maybe also undo?) actions" that can be opted in to.
