As an user I want to download a wikipedia page in the pdf format to my device.
@atgo Am I mistaken in thinking that consuming and sharing articles as PDFs came up as a frequent use case in your new readers research?
To expand on my comment a bit:
It seems like these OTRS users want to save PDF versions of articles so that they have access to them offline (one of the OTRS comments states this explicitly), which likely comes from a misunderstanding of how our reading list feature works. Therefore, wouldn't it suffice for us to better communicate to our users that saving an article to a reading list equates to saving it for offline access? Is there something else that the user could do with a PDF copy of an article that they can't do by saving it to a reading list in the app?
Hello! The research supports that people are interested in saving and sharing offline, but doesn't specify the format. Through the concept research for the reading web team (round 1, round 2), we did find that PDFs were probably the best solution there, but I don't see that as prescriptive for the Android app.
I would invest in better messaging/understanding of the offline functionality within the app before going to PDFs. Do you guys do any tracking of volume of OTRS requests for things like this? It might be interesting to see if the volume drops with improvements to offline support.
