6MB profile picture upload fails (and gives you a broken photo instead of erroring)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I tried to upload https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alex_Monk.jpg as my profile picture but it just does this:

profile (200×200 px, 1 KB)

Event Timeline

Maybe Phabricator just can't handle my 6.14MB 5,386 × 3,590 pixel JPEG file. I scaled it down to 1000 × 667 pixels (619KB) and it worked.

@AlexMonk-WMF Hi, we have updated phabricator a couple times since you reported this, is this still a problem?

@Paladox: Have you tried yourself? Do you have specific upstream revisions in mind (that you could identify by URLs) that might have touched this behavior, which make it reasonable to assume that the problem might have improved?
Did Krenair explicitly agree to be added as a subscriber in T127564#2588490 ?

@Aklapper sorry I accidentally added krenair, once I realised I removed him sorry about that.

And no I haven't tested since I doint need a profile picture.

@Paladox: Then I don't consider comments like T127564#2588486 helpful and I ask you to refrain from adding such comments. Thank you.

Cannot reproduce (anymore): Tried the same for a 6.4MB image on this instance. Got an error message (No configured storage engine can store this file. See "Configuring File Storage" in the documentation for information on configuring storage engines.).

(That error itself is covered in T155130: Unclear error message when uploading a larger attachment: "Exception: No configured storage engine can store this file.".)
