Especially on slow connections this would be great, since then I'd know it was loading etc.

Per our conversation this will also help with the perceived loading time and responsiveness of the feed.

Yes, this was on our wish list for 5.0.0 but didn't quite make it.

Moving out of Saturn scope, since we are changing how the feed loads in that version (T138051) and can reconsider the visuals after that is done.

Instead of placeholders, we've improved the visibility of the loading spinner as well as animating in new contents . Closing.
