Return Special:ApiSandbox to the old design or provide an option to switch to it in preferences
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

The current design of the page is ugly (two scroll bars!), very hard to use for people like me, who are used to the old design of the page with minimalistic design. I would like to use the old interface of the page since it is the only interface of the page I know how to work in. I will be fine with either having the redesign rolled back completely, or having an option in preferences so that I can turn the new design off just for myself.

Try the "Expand panel" button[1] to take care of the two scrollbars issue.

[1]: Or whatever [[MediaWiki:apisandbox-fullscreen]] is on your wiki.

Then it covers the whole site which is completely unacceptible for any special page. I have tried it before filing the task. I thus do insist on the request.

Not going to happen. Please do not reopen.

@Anomie: Just to clarify in one or two quick sentences, would a contributed patch to provide the requested functionality be acceptable and receive a review, or if totally not, what are technical constraints/reasons (performance? long-term maintenance of more lines of code)? Thanks in advance!

What's being requested here is to keep around a big pile of broken code (look at the long list of bugs fixed by rMWf0207e8ca6e1: Add Special:ApiSandbox) that probably no one is ever going to maintain or fix because I already fixed it by writing the new code.

@Base to be honest, "bring back the old one" type complaints are effectively going to be ignored and not worked on.

It would be significantly more helpful if you could outline your workflow, and what tasks are more difficult in the new design. Does it require too many clicks? Is it confusing to use? (What specifically is confusing?). That kind of feedback will be significantly more useful than just "bring back the old one". The old one actually had a lot of bugs in that that are fixed in the new one, so we're not going back.

While the headline is unactionable the complaints are valid. Will track here T130492
