Description

I temporarily lost Internet connection,
so I got "Unable to transfer content: Error contacting the server for conversion between wikitext and HTML. Please check your Internet connection or try again later if the problem persists. If you still get this error please file a bug".
How about we don't assume everyone knows where or how to file a bug and add a link there? :)

What software was doing this? VE?

Wikimedia-production-error is for errors going into the server logs.

It happened in Flow actually, I just assumed it's a message that would occur in any environment. Thanks for your note.
