Overlaid captions obscure the content of images
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

With the new theme now in use on the Wikimedia blog, captions are overlaid onto the images they describe.

While this is nice for large decorative photos, it doesn't work as well for images with a more horizontal aspect ratio, sometimes going as far as obscuring the whole content of the image.

This is particularly problematic for diagrams that aren't just decorative. See https://blog.wikimedia.org/2014/11/07/cleaning-up-file-metadata-for-humans-and-robots/ for a few examples.

This isn't something we will be able to fix, and this doesn't affect the current posts we're putting out, so I've marked the priority as "lowest." I'm happy to manually address this issue as needed if the posts are still being referenced and used.

@EdErhart-WMF: If it is impossible to fix, why keep this bug report open?
