Regression: Myanmar Wikipedia is not avalible in the app
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

It is not possible to search for articles on my.m.wikipedia.org from within the app. Not sure if this has been intentionally removed from the app, or if we've forgot to include it.

Received (at least) 4 feedback tickets about this.

Likely a mismatch between wiki name and iOS localization entry. Not intentional.

For testing:

  • add burmese as a search language
  • load any article in search - just type a letter and load article for any search result
  • ensure the text of the article looks more like the second image below, not the first image:

Tested on iOS 9.3.1 iPhone with Wikipedia app build 5.0.3 (843). This issue is now fixed as Burmese is an available search language for articles that have it as a language option (i.e. Barack Obama).

@JMinor This has regressed...

I believe because of WKWebView process issues.

Mhurd renamed this task from Myanmar Wikipedia is not avalible in the app to Regression: Myanmar Wikipedia is not avalible in the app.Oct 8 2016, 9:01 PM
Mhurd moved this task from Bug Backlog to Needs Triage on the Wikipedia-iOS-App-Backlog board.

Note: this appears to be iOS 9 only. iOS 10 seems to support Myanmar chars out of the box.

Unsure if we want to hack around for 9... (if not we should remove the Tharlon font bits added here https://github.com/wikimedia/wikipedia-ios/pull/680)

Per our chat, lets ship a beta with iOS 10 only (as is) and put in a testing note.

I’m resolving this as part of a board grooming process.
