Mailing lists for Iberocoop
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hi!

I'm Patricio Molina, bureaucrat in the Spanish Wikipedia, Secretary of Wikimedia Argentina and member of Iberocoop.

In Iberocoop we have decided to transfer our two mailing lists to *@wikimedia.org, if possible:

  • A public mailing list in iberocoop@wikimedia.org
  • A private mailing list (only for representatives) in iberocoop-internal@wikimedia.org

I have experience with mailing lists under Mailman. My e-mail address is patricio@wikimedia.org.ar, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any question.

Thanks,
Patricio

Event Timeline

You mean iberocoop@lists.wikimedia.org and iberocoop-internal@lists.wikimedia.org ?

Yes, sorry about that. *@lists.wikimedia.org should be fine.

It may be interesting to import the archives from the old mailing lists.

I know you have limited time and resources, but we're a little bit in a hurry since lots of work has to be done through these lists. Is there any chance to have them created asap? Thanks, and sorry for being such a PITA.

Hi! As Wikimedia Mexico president I support this petition. Strongly appreciated if this can be soon.
Thanks,

Hi,

I also endorse this task in my position of president of Wikimedia Venezuela and sysop at es:wiki.

Thanks,

Hello,

As Chair of the Affiliations Committee, I was present at the Iberocoop meeting held during the WMCON where this was discussed and I endorse the creation of these two mailing lists. Please proceed as soon as possible and many thanks in advance.

There's two possible solutions to this, (1) easy and fast, and (2) bit more complicated and slower.

  1. I create those two mailing lists for you tonight, 20 May, without importing any archives;
  2. I can create the lists for you and then you'll have to pass the archives to a member of the ops team for importing into fermium, which will probably take some time.

In any case, I suggest we get at least two people to sign up to be (at least temporary) list admins.

Don't import any archives please, we need the mailing list asap :-)

Thanks

Please kindly provide the e-mail address of a secondary list administrator as mentioned by the procedure on Meta.

galio2k at gmail please.

Hi @Mahadeva, thank you for the swift response.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, here's the default settings I am going to create the lists with:

  1. iberocoop@lists.wikimedia.org – public archives, everyone is able to sign up to the mailing list after confirming subscription, list available through Gmane.org;
  2. iberocoop-internal@lists.wikimedia.org – private archives, new subscriptions approved by list admins/moderators, list not available through Gmane.

Both lists will be listed on the main list directory at https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo as is current procedure.

And of course Patricio and Galio will be initial administrators for both lists.

That all correct? :-)

The two mailing lists have now been created, and I configured them in the following way:

  • iberocoop@lists.wikimedia.org: public archives, new list members able to subscribe after confirmation, with Patricio and Galio being the initial administrators.
      • This list will be available through the e-mail to news gateway Gmane.org at gmane.org.wikimedia.iberocoop
    1. iberocoop-internal@lists.wikimedia.org: private archives, new list members need to confirm subscription and be then approved by list administrators Patricio and Galio.

The remainder of the settings can be configured at:

Please make sure to list and describe both mailing lists at the appropriate section of the mailing lists overview page on Meta.

I'm sending the admin passwords for both lists to Patricio and Galio at the two e-mail addresses given above; I've just made the only list administrators for both lists (feel free to add more people to the admin/moderator group).

I'm closing this task as resolved; please don't hesitate to reopen if you have any questions or issues.

I see no reason not to import the archives anyway. A change in url for the first few messages seems a minor annoyance in comparison with the achievement.
I can probably provide a mbox for iberocoop-general from my local archives of both lists, but iberocoop-internal would need to be provided by someone else.
