Lexicon entry editor (was: Input of phonetic text for correct pronunciation using specially developed tools for IPA/SAMPA (with the possibility to have the input read back to you and suggestions based on similar words))
Open, LowPublic

Description

Special editor or similar for the input of pronunciations using IPA/SAMPA, with feedback
Existing: No
To do: STTS makes an editor (which Wikimedia can then productify/integrate as needed), and a web based solution which calls the Wikispeech-server and handles/validates transcriptions as input, looks up in the lexicon of pronunciations to give the user example transcriptions, and synthesises transcriptions for feedback to the user, or feeds recorded examples to the user (see Property 7). Validation is language specific and needs to be developed as part of the process for “New Language”.

Identified as a component during the pilot study.

Event Timeline

This can be used as inspiration for how the IPA-input can work: http://ipa.typeit.org/full/.

HannaLindgren moved this task from Backlog to This Sprint on the Wikispeech-STTS board.

This component partly exists in a test version somewhere.

HannaLindgren renamed this task from [Task] Input of phonetic text for correct pronunciation using specially developed tools for IPA/SAMPA (with the possibility to have the input read back to you and suggestions based on similar words) (Wikispeech) to [Task] Lexicon entry editor (Input of phonetic text for correct pronunciation using specially developed tools for IPA/SAMPA (with the possibility to have the input read back to you and suggestions based on similar words)) (Wikispeech).May 19 2016, 12:54 PM

Overlapping with T133865?

Yes, there is definitely an overlap. I think that this was intended as a subtask to T133865 earlier, but that was perhaps an artificial division.

@Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE Is there anything here not covered by T133865 or ita subtasks?

There is one thing in the description.

looks up in the lexicon of pronunciations to give the user example transcriptions

I'm not sure what this exactly means. Is it: when you enter a transcription, you get suggestions for similar transcriptions that you might want to use instead?
