If you minimized the app while settings was onscreen, then went
to safari and opened a link it would open the app still showing
settings, and only when you closed settings would you see the
article from safari.

Testing on iOS 9.3.1 and Wikipedia 5.0.5 (855). This is fixed as opening Settings in Wikipedia app build does not open Settings when clicking link to Wikipedia article from Safari.
