en WS file upload template copyright selection and category assignment problems
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

There are two problems with this local file upload template at https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Special:Upload

First problem is that the copyright selection contains duplicate template references (public domain) and one the assigned abbreviation is no longer valid.

Second problem is that a selected copyright tag inserts it's own category upon upload, and this precludes the addition of a user selected category. In my case, the selected copyright: CC0 1.0 (public domain) license eliminated my selected category.

Most, if not all, my uploads are temporary and are assigned the "Instructional" category. They should not be stored on the commons and I delete them after several months.

the resulting category deletes my selected category.

Event Timeline

The licensing options can be corrected at https://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Licenses&action=edit by any Wikisource administrator (the "Edit license options" in the upload form links there).

I'm not sure what is the other issue you're describing, I don't even see any way to specify categories in that form (other than just wikitext [[Category:Foo]]`). It's probably some Wikisource-specific gadget.

Ineuw claimed this task.

matmarex, thanks for the link, I already corrected it. The category problem seemed to be related to HotCat and the two fixed (built in) categories of

[[:Category:Files with no machine-readable description]] and [[:Category:Files with no machine-readable authorFiles with no machine-readable source(+)]]

But now I tried it again, and its working.

Please consider this solved, but will reopen if there are difficulties with the categories.
