Create a project for video2commons
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We have some tasks about video2commons on the tracker.

These tasks aren't especially related to v2c development, but mainly about how the other pieces of Wikimedia infrastructure coudl interact with v2c.

Tasks to put in the project are for example T134914 and T134453.

Event Timeline

Lowercase?

Also, can we be clear somehow that the project is not tracking bugs/issues for the tool itself, as they are currently done in GitHub issues.

Also, can we be clear somehow that the project is not tracking bugs/issues for the tool itself, as they are currently done in GitHub issues.

We can do that in the project description, but in my experience, people around here:

  • Hate project scope rules.
  • Hate having their task closed and getting told to post it somewhere else. (e.g. gadget/article edit requests being sent to wikis)
  • Love to push the boundaries of project scopes, and even Phabricator scope.
  • Don't read the project descriptions anyway - the task creation interface doesn't provide any helpful links to those pages. I've occasionally been guilty of this.

So yes, but I wish you good luck in actually enforcing anything without making it clear from the project name - one case I have in mind is Wikimedia-IRC, which IIRC was described in Bugzilla as for the RC stream server only, but still people filled it with stuff about Wikimedia chat channels hosted by FreeNode (not us). At one point after we moved to Phabricator, I took the opportunity to rename it to Wikimedia-IRC-RC-Server, and now it's unambiguous.

Danny_B lowered the priority of this task from Medium to Lowest.

Per T134915#2283750 lowering the priority and unassigning from myself leaving the final decision on @Aklapper (as he has specific way of reviewing of creation of projects for external projects)

So yes, but I wish you good luck in actually enforcing anything (...)

Enforcing of anything in bug tracking system is actually one of the bugmeister/bugwrangler/bugwhatever's job description primary tasks...

Project description missing.

Plus I'd like to see a reply to T134915#2283758

@zhuyifei1999 Scope could be larger if converted as a production service.

How about Video2commons is an open source tool to transfer video and audio from external sites to Commons.? Links could be added later I guess.

Wait what's the question again? Regarding naming I honestly can't think of a good unambiguous name.

@zhuyifei1999 Scope could be larger if converted as a production service.

Perhaps I'll move the bug tracking here if that's the case. I'm waiting for Ladsgroup's response regarding the conversion, as he's busy atm with wikimania (what I was told by him). Maybe the conversion could be considered a blocker for this task.

There is no question. It's just an opinion (which I share) that you will receive lots of tasks that will be in the wrong place.

Aklapper claimed this task.
