Rearranging the order of image (link)s in galleries via drag and drop (AJAXy)
Open, LowestPublic

Description

Author: slowpoke

Description:
It would be really handy if there was an AJAX-y way of reordering images in a gallery (the order of the image links) by displaying the gallery, selecting images through the mouse, and drag and dropping them among the other images in the gallery. Not sure how difficult this would be, but it would be extremely useful in Commons.

Not seeing anybody working on this soon and not sure if sufficient low-level architecture is in place anyway, hence setting priority to lowest priority.

Sounds like a request suitable for VisualEditor.

This is a message posted to all tasks under "Re-check in September 2015" at Possible-Tech-Projects. Outreachy-Round-11 is around the corner. If you want to propose this task as a featured project idea, we need a clear plan with community support, and two mentors willing to support it.

This is a message sent to all Possible-Tech-Projects. The new round of Wikimedia Individual Engagement Grants is open until 29 Sep. For the first time, technical projects are within scope, thanks to the feedback received at Wikimania 2015, before, and after (T105414). If someone is interested in obtaining funds to push this task, this might be a good way.

Moving this to Missing Mentors, as the descriptions seems possible for a gsoc/outreachy program.
If anyone is interested in mentoring it for Outreachy-Round-11 please speak up.

This task doesn't look like a good candidate for Possible-Tech-Projects while T45037: VisualEditor: Support galleries is up in the air.
