ExtensionDistributor should dereference symbolic links
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Since ExtensionDistributor is intended for users, not developers, and Windows has poor support for symbolic links, perhaps ExtensionDistributor should (by default or with an option) dereference symbolic links into normal files.

The patch was merged and I see it is in production given that the extension GuidedTour – which has a symbolic link COPYING – has no symbolic link when downloaded on mediawiki.org but a correctly-dereferenced file.
