Rename repository names in Diffusion which have different names than in (canonical) Gerrit or Github (consistency)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Steps to reproduce

There are no steps since this is not a bug report.

Repos need to have the same name as the mirror.

For example

extension-MobileFrontend

Should be mediawiki-extensions-MobileFrontend

See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/diffusion/EMFR/manage/ and name colum.

And GitHub mirror https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-MobileFrontend

This is required for {D234}

@QChris and @demon can I add you to task since your the ones creating the repos please.

Guess we should make a mass change for that, changing that manually is a lot of work. Last time @demon did changes "via console".

I'm not sure why some of the names were changed during the initial import into phabricator, however, I believe that it's no longer necessary for the name to match between github and phabricator.

It would be nice, for consistency sake but it's not causing any real problems.

The "names" don't matter all that much other than aesthetics, but the clone paths do need to be adjusted to all be consistent.

it's slightly more than just aesthetics since inconsistency = confusion = loss of productivity but it's not high priority as noted by setting priority = low

Aklapper removed a project: Differential.

I'm afraid I nowadays don't understand which actual problem this creates in which real-life situation / use case.
Declining for now, but if someone has good arguments apart from "consistency", please elaborate (and keep also name versus Clone URI in mind).
