Map showing as lead image on mobile app articles about certain building instead of an lead image of the actual building
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

I have noticed this is on 3 separate articles (Empire State, Flatiron and Chrysler buildings) where there is a map image as well as the main image of the actual building in the info box. Note this is occurring on both iOS and Android apps.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Search for article "Empire State building" -
  2. Select to view the article. Note that the lead image is showing as the map.

Actual:
Both the search result thumb img and lead image in the Empire State building article is showing a map of NYC

Expected:
Lead image should be a photograph of the building as it is on the web.

RHo updated the task description. (Show Details)
JMinor edited projects, added PageImages; removed iOS-app-v5.1.0-Saturn.
JMinor subscribed.

I'm guessing this is related to Page Image selection since it affects both apps. Tagging that project and removing iOS Saturn release tag.

Jdlrobson subscribed.

PageImages is dumb so this is unlikely to ever be fixed programmatically. The only possible solution I can see is doing image detection (expensive and not sure worthwhile as this will set a precedent for other use cases) or allow editors to overrride the page image with something more suitable.

Due to above it may make sense to decline this task otherwise it will be here 4 years later.
