labsdb1001: Investigate eth0 wrong negotiated interface speed
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Icinga is reporting "eth0 has different negotiated speed than requested" for labsdb1001. First thing to try is a new cable.

  • NOTE --

This box is in active use by a bunch of crabby volunteers. So please make the swap as quickly as possible (lay new cable in advance so that the downtime is just unplug old/plug in new). Best to coordinate on IRC with jynus and Andrew when the swap is happening so we can tell Labs users what is happening.

Swapped cable but same issue persists.

resolving this since it's not the cable.

I see the warning is still active though

akosiaris subscribed.

I 'll reopen this, albeit as stalled as this hasn't been resolved. I had a quick look both on switch side and host side. The host is reporting an MDI-X: Unknown. The normal value is on.

After spending some time to login into the management interface (this is one of the last Ciscos we have after all), I 've issued a

sudo ethtool -r eth0

to force a renegotiation to no avail.

I am setting it to stalled since it seems from T168584#3425254 that the box shouldn't be touched for the next 4-6 until we have a proper replacement in place and users have migrated over to it.

And probably it might not be even worth it to spend more time on this host as it will be decommissioned soon.

Let's close this as these servers will be decommissioned (hopefully 13th Dec) - T175086#3633776
