"$1" shows instead of username in reset password error message
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When resetting password for an account not on English Wikipedia, it replies back "The username $1 is not registered on this wiki, but you can reset its password on a wiki where it is."

The "$1" thing needs to be fixed.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PasswordReset
  2. In the "Username:" field, enter "Username" (which does exist as a global account, yet is not linked to an account on English Wikipedia; see Special:CentralAuth/Username)
  3. Click "Reset password"

Actual result:

As described above. Screenshot: http://prntscr.com/bh36n1

Expected result:

The provided username should show instead of "$1".

When resetting password for an account not on English Wikipedia

Hi @Anupmehra, thanks for taking the time to report this!
Unfortunately this report lacks exact steps to reproduce, click by click, step by step. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please add a more complete description to this report. Ideally, exact and clear steps to reproduce should allow any other person to follow these steps (without having to interpret those steps) and see the same results. Thanks!
